Driving Lessons

Learning to drive is a great achievement in life but can also be a daunting one, if you're not 100% clear with what's involved in learning to drive here is a quick overview of some of the things that you'll be expected to do.

Once you have applied for your provisional licence it's a good idea to start studying the Highway Code in preparation for your theory test. After you've received your license you can begin your driving lessons.

Recommended study: The official Highway Code, The official DSA guide to learning to drive, DVD-ROM Driving Test success.

Theory & Hazard perception tests

The test is made up of two parts:

Part 1
50 multiple choice questions. To pass, you must answer 43 or more questions correctly.

Part 2
The hazard perception test consists of 14 video clips, there are 15 hazards to identify and you can score up to 5 points for each one depending how quickly you spot them and respond by clicking the mouse button. You need 44 out of 75 to pass. You must pass both parts of the theory test together to be able to book your practical test.

The practical test

This will last for 40 minutes, you will first have to read a number plate at the distance of 20.5 meters. Then two show me tell me questions.

An example of show and tell me questions are:

  • Show me how you would check your indicators are working.
  • Tell me how you would check the oil level in the car.

You will drive in various road situations and be asked to perform two reverse manoeuvres and you may also be asked to do a controlled stop, to pass, you will have proved that you can drive safely with no more than 15 minor driving faults.

You can book your test on line at or call on 08700101372

I teach using the latest up to date driving techniques using step by step visual teaching aids. Pupils will be supplied with progress cards which will be filled in and updated after each lesson allowing you to keep track of your progress and allowing for family and friends to help you with private practice.
